What is the Cabrini-Green Tutoring Program?
The Cabrini-Green Tutoring Program (in Chicago, IL), beginning its 46th year of service, serve over 300 children. in grades one through six. Many of the students live in or around the Cabrini Green housing project or come from economically disadvantaged families from the Near North and Near West neighborhoods. Tutoring sessions are held Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday evenings from 6:10 pm to 7:30pm. Each student is paired with his/her own volunteer tutor. The program provides a safe, stable learning environment and individualized attention for the children.

Locations:
  • The main tutoring center is in Lincoln Park inside St. Vincent de Paul Center at 2145 N. Halsted St. Tutoring takes place here Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday nights from 6:oo-7:30pm.

  • The program also operates in Logan Square inside Goethe Elementary School at 2236 N Rockwell St. Tutoring takes place here Tuesday nights from 6:00-7:30pm.


  • Staff
    Erin McPartlin, Executive Director, started with Cabrini Green Tutoring Program in 2001 as the Program Director. She has served as organization’s Executive Director since 2005. Prior to leading CGTP, Ms. McPartlin taught fifth grade for several years, focusing on special education inclusion and improvements to mathematics curriculum. Ms. McPartlin holds a BA in social sciences and elementary education from Marquette University. She also holds a teaching certificate for grades K-9 in Wisconsin and Illinois.

    Jennifer Neighbours, Program Manager, has worked closely with our students and volunteers since fall 2009. Prior to CGTP, Ms. Neighbours taught kindergarten. Ms. Neighbours holds a BA in business from Southern Methodist University and graduated with honors from DePaul with an MA in elementary education. She also holds a teaching certificate for grades K-9 in both Texas and Illinois.

    Jill Heller , Director of Fundraising, has been working with CGTP since 2002. Ms. Heller holds a BA in education from Indiana University and an MA in special education from National College of Education.

    Amy Gregor, Educational Support Supervisor, has supported our students and staff during the tutoring sessions since fall 2009, previously serving as a volunteer tutors. She holds a bachelor’s degree in education from Indiana University, and currently teaches 1st grade.

    Michael Aranoff, Technology Coordinator, has supported our technology systems since 2006 and oversees the computer lab. He holds several technical certifications inclduing an ACTC, CCNA and MCSA. He is an IT Support Engineer with over twenty years experience in the technology field.

    Christina Collins, Special Projects Manager, joined CGTP in fall 2010 to oversee the LIT Project. She continues to manage the LIT Project and now oversees the new site at Logan Square/Goethe Elementary. She holds a bachelor's degree in education from Indiana University and a master's degree in education from National Lewis University.

    Tutor Advisory Board (TAB), made up of 21 dedicated veteran volunteers, whose intent is to support the mission of the program. The TAB serves as leaders of each classroom, supporting the volunteer population. This junior board also assists with fundraising, event planning and communication.
