How you can get involved

Dear Friend of the Cabrini-Green Tutoring Program,

I am the President of the Board of the Cabrini-Green Tutoring Program.   For the last 44 years our program has provided free one-to-one tutoring to economically disadvantaged elementary school children in grades 1-6 on the city’s near north side.

I am also a volunteer tutor.   For five years, I tutored and mentored Savon Clark, who now attends a selective enrollment high school, Lindblom Math and Science Academy.   This year, I’m working with a third grader, Collin Warren.   Every week, Collin and I, and 250 other students and more than 275 other volunteer tutors, meet for an hour and a half and work to improve the math, literacy and life skills of Chicago’s future.

Unfortunately, we cannot do this without your help.   We recognize that the economic climate has been and will continue to be difficult, but that same difficult economy also means more students need our help.   We have added 50 new students in the last year and a half and we expect to add another 50 by the end of 2010.

Your financial contributions, both large and small, can help us in a number of ways.   For example, a contribution of $1,000 will help pay for books we distribute to students as part of our literacy program.   A contribution of $500 will help pay for the bus that safely transports our students to and from the program.   A contribution of $100 will provide library books, or teaching and reference materials.

I hope you will do what you can by donating now to the Cabrini-Green Tutoring Program.   Your contribution to us is tax deductible.

Thanks for your continued support and for your help in making this another great year of tutoring.
